TWO EXCELLENT NEW PUBLIC EDUCATION VIDEOS AVAILABLE IN ENGLISH, FRENCH, ARABIC, HUNGARIAN AND TURKISH.

These two videos, available on one VHS cassette aim to provide tenants with the information needed to find and keep rental housing and prevent homelessness. Produced by a coalition of community agencies, and starring volunteer cast members, these two videos are applicable for rural or urban audiences throughout Ontario. It is our hope that clients, students or members of your organization will find them useful and informative.

“The Search for Housing” follows a woman through the steps of looking for an affordable rental unit. Determining your housing needs, explaining various types of housing, trying to get financial assistance, talking to landlords and getting help from services available in the community are all discussed. This video is an excellent resource for people who are unfamiliar with the rental housing market. It offers important tips on budgetting and doing a ‘housing search’.

“Your Rights and Responsibilities as a Tenant” discusses what happens after you move into a rental unit. The rental agreement, payment of rent, and the Tenant Protection Act are covered. It also follows several tenants through difficult circumstances such as harassment, discrimination, a landlord’s refusal to make repairs and fighting an eviction. What to expect at an Ontario Rental Housing Tribunal Hearing is an important segment that will assist tenants who are unsure of their rights and responsibilities when it comes to rental housing. The video also shows the benefits of forming a Tenants’ Association to work towards addressing mutual concerns and solving problems.
